Imray Strategic Analysis and Resolution

Imray Strategic Analysis and Resolution

The challenge our client faced.

Imray is a 400-year-old, family run producer of nautical charts and guides with a tremendous historical legacy. It is at a critical juncture where strategic decisions must be made regarding ownership and control, possible new shareholder integration, governance, brand identity, and future product strategy. A combination of time pressures, shareholder aspirations and a small decision- making team creates potential for these critical decisions to be made without fully understanding or identifying all the risks, vulnerabilities, dependencies, opportunities or consequences. Vedette was asked to provide decision-making support.

How Vedette responded.

We applied the Vedette CTAC (Critical Thinking, Analysis and Challenge) Approach to identify Imray’s priority challenges. These incorporated strategic planning and decision making, risk management and mitigation, organisational structure and governance, brand identity and marketing, and employment security and human resources. We then ran these through the CTAC Methodology toolset and a Premortem was selected as the preferred approach and carried out over a single four- hour team session.

The results.

By the end of the four-hour Premortem workshop, Imray had a clearer understanding of potential failure points and robust strategy options to mitigate these risks. A rationalisation of the data resulted in 60% improved clarity based on the triage of challenges. This structured approach provided Imray decision-makers clearer insights and priorities to focus on which will assist in shaping an action plan to meet the requirements of safeguarding the company’s heritage, and values, and providing a better-informed position for future planning and confidence in successful decision outcomes.
